Description:  The Little Read is an elementary education community-wide reading initiative of Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Visiting Writers Series “In Their Own Words.”  It is designed to provide quality literature for classroom use and to involve in meaningful ways parents and other community members in the educational process.
 
Mission:  The mission of The Little Read is to make reading come alive to elementary school children (and their parents) in Catawba County by organizing special reading and cultural programs in conjunction with the appearance of a major children’s author.
 
The 2014-2015 visiting author is Joyce Hostetter.  The book Blue will be enjoyed by 5th grade students and teachers.

March 17th - 20th:  Drama Performances by LR at schools
April 15th - 16th:  Author presentations to students in PE Monroe Auditorium
Thursday, April 16th - 4:00 to 6:00:  Teacher presentations and reception, Belk Lobby
Saturday, April 18th - 12:00 until: Community presentation

Art and Literature Contest - 3 students for art and 3 students for literature should be chosen from each school.  The theme for both is "Standing Together:  ."

The 2012-2013 author was Cynthia Lord.  Fifth grade students and teachers loved reading Rules.
